Our Wines

Chanela Vineyards produces a wide variety of locally grown wines including both white and red varietals. Our white wines include Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and Semillión.  Our red wine selection is more extensive and includes Petite Sirah, Tempranillo, Malbec, Sangiovese, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, Pinot Noir and Petit Verdot.  These wines are bottled as single varietals and occasionally as red blends, depending on  our winemakers objectives since they are producing these wines with the intention of bringing out the very best characteristics of our vineyard.

All of our wines are produced in limited amounts using the very best techniques with as little interference as we feel appropriate.  It is our belief that these wines should be allowed to express the terroir of our vineyards, but that they should also be shepherded along the way to be the very best they can be. There is a balance to be achieved between using a very light touch in the development of the wines, and the applying of just enough direction to achieve the highest quality our grapes can produce.  We strive everyday to find that balance, in each wine and in each season.  Come by the winery and judge for yourself the results of our work.

Our whimsical collection

2019 Chardonnay

VISUAL – This wine is light gold in color that is not fined or filtered. Beautiful legs that hint at a moderately high alcohol in this wine.

NOSE – The nose starts out with faint hints of oak and dust on a background of apple pie and subtle herbs.

TASTE – This wine is dry and the flavors begin mid-palate with lemon grass, tart McIntosh apple and a hint of melon rind before a finish of soft butterscotch.

COMMENTS – This wine belies the warmer Utah climate and instead reflects the elevation of this vineyard.  Though it is done in all stainless steel these grapes naturally want to show off soft notes of oak and butterscotch.  This wine is best served chilled and pairs well with fish, baked chicken, roast turkey and many Asian inspired dishes.

2018 Malbec

VISUAL – This wine is dark as night, with an opaque deep burgundy red that shows almost black in the glass. This wine coats the glass and shows excellent legs, promising a smooth mouthfeel.

NOSE – The nose offers hints of blackberry, white pepper in front of a pinch of black olive, spearmint and dust.

TASTE – soft fruits of raspberry and grape jam, hints of dust and cocoa powder with smooth tannins across the palate. Nice mouthfeel and oak barrel flavors of vanilla and graphite help give this wine a moderately long finish.  Enjoy this wine with beef, lamb, and pasta with red sauce.

2018 Pinot Grigio

VISUAL – This copper colored (Ramato) wine is done in the classic Italian style.  Rich, yet a brightness shining through the fact that it is unfined and unfiltered. Nice legs on the glass that would not be expected in a traditional Pinot Grigio.

NOSE – Soft notes of oak and dandelion start on the nose with a hint of dust and orange zest behind it all.

TASTE The taste is tart white peach with a drop of honey, mandarin orange zest and ginger root.  There are subtle back notes of herbal tea and minerals.
